Its Not Harry

Comment and opinion for retail investors in the UK

*Important Information*

Data Protection

This statement represents our entire Data Policy.

It is not our ambition to collect or use your personal data, but if you elect for our subscription service, we need to know who you are, so that we can give you a password and check that you are paying your subscriptions.  By electing for the subscription service and answering the questions, you consent to our receiving and processing the data you supply.  Note that we do not collect payments by direct debit, so we don’t want and will not retain any information about your banking arrangements.  We take your privacy seriously at NotHarry and here is an explanation of how we deal with your data.

We collect the following personal data in order to identify you:  your name, email address, your conformation that you aged over 18 and resident in the UK (which we may ask you to validate by supplying a document, a copy of which we will not retain after validation).  We will cross check your name with standing order credits paid to our bank to validate your subscription.  We collect personal data only in order to identify you as a subscriber and issue you with a password and we will not otherwise process the data, nor disclose it to any other party unless we are obliged to do so by law.

If you send more information for processing, for example investment holdings data for analysis, we will process it anonymously and return reports to you by electronic means, but without including personal identifiers in the reports.  The data will be held by us temporarily in the form in which you supply it and in the processed form of the requested analysis or report but only to facilitate any concurrent discussions with you and it will then be deleted when those discussions are concluded, or shortly thereafter.  If you wish to have access to the data of reports in the future, you need to retain your own copies as we will not keep any records of subscriber data other than that listed in the preceding paragraph.

The unencrypted data will be held on privately owned computers used in the Republic of Lithuania and the principles of the Europe wide General Data Protection Regulations (2016/679) will be applicable. These are the same as those applied in the UK, subject to any changes after BREXIT.  Normal prudent procedural, technological and physical security measures will be taken to prevent theft or unauthorized access to those computers and your confidential data.

Your data will be processed only by the proprietor of NotHarry (Mark Potter).  It will be retained as long as you are a subscriber and deleted as soon as you cease to be a subscriber. NotHarry may use internet cloud storage services supplied by recognized major global software corporations to retain backup copies.  The web site is hosted on Microsoft Azure in the UK and backed up to Amazon cloud servers in Ireland.

You can request a copy of the personal data we hold at no cost, although it will only be as described above, plus a record of payments made, if applicable.  Requests should be sent by email using the subscriber’s contact details as advised to you when you take up the subscription service.

Note that NotHarry will not collect any personal data from users of the website who are not subscribers.  We use only one simple cookie to allow members to save their log in name for ease of access.

Financial Advice

The services offered by NotHarry are the provision of information, expert analysis for a general readership and research and commentary on investment funds, strategies and products available to UK retail investors. Therefore, the information is relevant only in the UK and may not be relevant to, or compliant with the laws of other countries.   Please note that it is your responsibility to determine that your intended use of the information will be technically and legally possible in the areas of the world where you intend to use them.

The primary objectives of this website are educational and journalistic.  Subscribers can access more complex material and a constantly updated commentary, as well as generic investment portfolio examples and detailed fund reviews, but there is no intention to suggest that any portfolio or fund is appropriate to a particular user/reader.  In effect, this web site is a more expert version of the financial pages of your daily newspaper, run by a retired financial adviser. It is not a substitute for financial advice, if you need that.

No personal financial advice is offered, nor are personal recommendations available.  Since each individual’s situation is unique, we cannot know that the information on this site is comprehensive or appropriate for any one individual.  We recommend that a qualified professional is always consulted and that you verify any information before using it for personal, financial, legal or business purposes.

We assume, in creating the content of parts of the web site, that readers already have a UK regulated financial adviser or have decided to act on their own account believing that they personally have enough experience and skill to do so.  We accept no liability for decisions made by readers on the basis of information we supply.  NotHarry’s opinions are intended to inform and educate users of the service, not to suggest, even by implication, that they should buy, sell or retain any particular investment.  Such decisions should be made by clients in the light of their personal financial situation, which we will not know, and ideally with the advice of a qualified and regulated financial adviser.

We offer some administrative support services to subscribers who need help setting up or monitoring investment accounts, but these services do not extend to personal recommendations on portfolio components.  Investment selections will always be the user’s personal responsibility.

Contacting Us

We offer no communication services to non-subscribers.  Subscribers may contact us using the email address mark@itsnotharry.com.  A UK telephone number can also be provided for the private use of subscribers, on request.

Communications cannot and will not ever include personal recommendations or advice, only generic assessments, opinions and research data which the subscriber may use as they think fit in discussions with their advisers, or on their own account.  We will try to answer all direct questions as fully as possible and with the best possible objective assessment and opinion but the afore mentioned constraint will always apply.
