A chill wind from the East

23rd February 2022 by Mark Potter Leave a Comment

I was planning to write theoretical piece about the need to properly understand what we mean by time if we are to be succesful investors, but I guess you would prefer to know what someone sitting about 100 miles from the Russian border thinks about geo-political events in this part of the world.

Pro Tip?

9th February 2022 by Mark Potter Leave a Comment

This last week global equity markets have bounced around but have not repeated the declines of late January. Does that mean we have so soon seen the end of this short/sharp correction?

Of course, I don’t know. My recent Monthly Briefing comments in summary were that we were seeing a ‘sensible’ correction and not pessimism that was anticipating a grinding recession. So I would allow a ‘maybe yes’ in answer to that question.

Pottering About

I often cross check what I have written in the past about economics and markets, partly to see how my looking into the future has inevitably been exposed as frequently ‘off beam’ (this tends to keep my current writing away from the wildest of speculations!) but more to assess what surprises or new trends have emerged and the more common reality: over many periods how little changes in 12 months.

Midweek Musings – quickies

24th November 2021 by Mark Potter Leave a Comment

After a longer technical post last week, this week I am going to confine myself to cherry picking a few news items that are relevant for investors who are considering portfolio asset mix balance and possible transactions, like profit taking.

Markets certainly seem edgy at the moment and the odds of a Santa Rally are receding. I suspect that institutional traders are looking to book some gains after a good year, perhaps nervous about the worsening Covid situation in much of Europe.
