Having only returned from holiday late yesterday, overdue by 4 days due to a WW2 bomb getting in the way of my travel arrangements, I have not composed my monthly briefing for October yet – it will follow in a fews days.
‘A flyer from 1943 stops a take off in 2023’ was the mild amusement that consoled me as my train returned to its starting point and my flight boarded without me.
I thought it worth noting in the meantime that the right wing of the already right wing US Republican party has just thrown out their own elected Speaker for not allowing a potentially distastrous shut down of the US government (the ‘potentially’ is I know debatable – some say no government in the USA would be an improvment).
Not to be outdone, the UK conservatives have spawned a group that could block its own Prime Minister from effective government, under the leadership of their own blue painted ‘Jeremy Corbyn’ model political hard liner (or in my view nutter), Liz Truss.
It strikes me as odd that the supposed parties of business on both sides of the Atlantic are behaving such that stock markets are getting very nervous indeed. A sort of modern Emporer Nero, maybe?
I guess the captains of industry (or hedge fund bosses these days) are less than happy. They have the money and therefore the clout that usually brings politicians to their semses, as Ms Truss and her Chancellor found out, but there will be volatility in the meantime.
